개막작 소개

센타로는 단팥으로 속을 채운 전통 빵 도라야키를 파는 작은 가게를 운영하며 단조로운 나날을 이어 간다. 어느 날 가게로 찾아 온 할머니 도쿠에는 구인광고를 보고 일하게 해 달라고 한다. 도쿠에의 단팥소를 맛보고 그녀에게 단팥 만드는 일을 맡기는 센타로. 너무나 맛있는 단팥을 만드는 도쿠에의 솜씨 덕분에 가게는 손님들로 붐비게 되지만, 도쿠에에 대한 소문과 편견은 모든 것을 바꿔 놓는다. 칸영화제의 단골인 일본 감독 가와세 나오미의 신작이자 올해 칸의 ‘주목할 만한 시선’ 개막작으로, 음식을 매개로 삶에 대한 깊은 통찰과 감동을 선사하는 영화. Sentaro runs a small bakery that serves dorayakis - pastries filled with sweet red bean paste (“an”). When an old lady, Tokue, offers to help in the kitchen he reluctantly accepts. But, Tokue proves to have magic in her hands when it comes to making “an”. Thanks to her secret recipe, the little business soon flourishes… And with time, Sentaro and Tokue will open their hearts to reveal old wounds. The film is the world-renowned filmmaker Naomi KAWASE’s first adaptation based on Durian SUKEGAWA’s novel with same title. The actors include Masatoshi NAGASE, highly respected Kirin Kiki, and Kirin Kiki’s granddaughter in real life, Kyara UCHIDA. It was the opening film of ‘Un Certain Regard’ of this year’s Cannes.

 

Director 가와세 나오미 Naomi KAWASE 1997년 <수자쿠>로 칸영화제 황금카메라상의 최연소 수상자가 되었다. 10년 후인 2007년에는 4번째 장편영화 <너를 보내는 숲>으로 심사위원대상을, 2009년에는 감독주간에서 황금마차상을 수상하였고, 2013년에는 장편부문 심사위원을 맡으면서 ‘칸이 사랑하는 거장’이라 불리고 있다. 다수의 다큐멘터리 중 <겐핀>으로 2010년 산세바스티안국제영화제에서 국제비평가협회상을 수상하였다. 나라국제영화제의 설립자이자 집행위원장으로, 세계 각국 젊은 감독들의 영화 작업을 돕는 프로듀서로도 활발히 활동하고 있다. 최근 개봉작 <한여름의 판타지아>의 프로듀서를 맡기도 하였다. Naomi KAWASE became in 1997 the youngest winner of the Camera d’Or at Festival de Cannes with her first feature <Suzaku>. Ten years later she came back with her 4th feature, <Mogari (The Mourning Forest)> and received the Grand Prix. She also received the Carrosse d’Or from the Directors’ Fortnight in 2009. One of her many documentary works, <Genpin>(2010), received the FIPRESCI Prize at the San Sebastian International Film Festival in 2010. She is also the founder of Nara International Film Festival and collaborates with young emerging filmmakers from all over the world as the project’s producer, such as she did in <A Midsummer Night’s Fantasia>.
